What is Twitter?
So what’s the deal with this Twitter? Really, do you really have to ask? Twitter is probably one of the quickest growing sites on the web these days. It is breaking tradition, and getting more users at a very quick rate. If you have to ask what this thing called Twitter is, you, more than anyone, need to read this and hop on the train!
Twitter is basically a scaled down blogging platform. You only get 140 digits for each post. This may seem tiny at first, but you can actually pack a lot of info into 140 characters. Even more to your advantage, however, is users are more apt to read all 140 characters than they are to read a full newspaper advertisement. As you become more comfortable working with the 140 character limit, it will become amazing what you can stick into that small space.
Twitter is much more, however, than just the platform to post random ideas. It is turning into a huge marketing boom for those who know how to harness the power of the site. There are numerous Twitter tools populating the cyberspace, allowing you to put together a following fast.
The whole key to Twitter is the ability to grow a following of incredibly targeted people. It is a virtual email list, but an email list that you can send messages to 10 or 15 times a day. Imagine that, how many advertising sources are out there that will allow you to get your advertisement in front of a incredibly targeted audience 10, 20 or more times a day? Well, there are a few, but how many won’t cost you a dime?
The huge upside to Twitter is that as you increase this following of highly targeted people, you begin building your own brand. You can build a reputation with these future clients, and they will always be there to receive your message. Pretty powerful stuff.
If you are barely getting started on Twitter, one item you will want to do is increase your followers. For those new to Twitter, this can be a lot of trial and error and frustrating. There are many of pretty decent articles on how to get more followers on Twitter, but my recommendation is some of the software on the market to help you manage the process.
There are many sites out there talking about “follower trains”, similar to a link exchange but for followers. You will increase your followers fast, but they are not quality followers. They are not targeted, and most are individuals just looking to grow their own followers. Your advertising is only as good as your list, grow it right is my suggestion. For a wonderful resource to help you do this, go check out Twitter blog.
